tarraco roman amphitheater

Roman Remains of Tarraco

Tarragona is home to the Roman Remains of Tarraco — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, if your kids are even remotely interest in history, they will love it here.

On the site, there’s a 2nd century amphitheater where the gladiators used to fight, the remains of a Roman aquaduct, several religious buildings, and the old city walls. These remains are some of the best preserved Roman remains you will find anywhere in the world, which is why hundreds of thousands of people visit them every year.

The remains are also right by the beach, so in a stunning location.

Salou Tourist Train

While you’re in Tarragona with the kids, don’t miss a side trip to Salou either. It’s a lovely beach town about 6 miles from Tarragona, and is specifically perfect for kids as it has a tourist train that runs all the way around the town.

Get on the train for one of its two circular routes, put on your headphones with English commentary and be taken all around the city to see places like Salou’s lighthouse, the Fountains of Salou, the harbor, and various coves and beaches. Kids love it, especially on a hot day, as they get a fun train ride plus can see a lot of the city without having to walk for miles. They even have special rates for families.

Now all you have to do is book a hotel in Tarragona, and you’re ready to go.
