Spain adds Austria and Croatia to high-risk countries list — restrictions back for travelers to Spain

As governments’ panic and stupidity centered around Covid-19 continues around the world, Spain’s Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare has added Austria and Croatia to its list of high-risk countries.

A list Austria and Croatia were removed from only a couple of months ago, only to be put back on as Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

Spain’s list of high-risk countries means travelers from both countries will now be subjected to stricter entry restrictions when arriving in Spain.

For people traveling from Austria and Croatia, this means they must show either proof of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19, proof they were infected with the virus in the last few months, or a negative Covid test both when boarding a plane and upon arrival in Spain.

The 25 countries currently on Spain’s high-risk list now are:

  1. Austria
  2. Belgium
  3. Bulgaria
  4. Croatia
  5. Cyprus
  6. Denmark
  7. Estonia
  8. Finland (the regions of Helsinki-Uusimaa, Etelä-Suomi, Länsi-Suomi and Pohjois- ja Itä-Suomi)
  9. France (the regions of Corse, Guadeloupe, Guyane, La Réunion, Martinique, Occitanie, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-FrancheComté, Bretagne, Center – Val de Loire, Grand Est, Hauts-de-France, Ile-deFrance, Normandie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Pays de la Loire )
  10. Germany
  11. Greece
  12. Iceland
  13. Ireland
  14. Italy (the regions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Marche, Sardegna, Sicily, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia, Piemonte, Autonomous Province of Bolzano / Bozen, Autonomous Province of Trento, Puglia, Umbria, Valle d’Aosta / Vallée d’Aoste and Veneto)
  15. Latvia
  16. Liechtenstein
  17. Lithuania
  18. Luxembourg
  19. Malta
  20. Netherlands
  21. Norway
  22. Portugal
  23. Romania (only Bucureşti-Ilfov)
  24. Slovenia
  25. Sweden

In other words, most of Europe.

Considering Spain continues to report some of the highest Covid-19 cases in the world, with an additional 7,767 new cases reported today alone, it boggles the mind why Spanish authorities seem to be so afraid of people arriving from elsewhere in Europe.

Shouldn’t it be the rest of Europe worrying about Spain?

In other words, yet more stupidity from the Spanish government, especially as the survival rate for Covid-19 is currently running at around 99.8% worldwide when averaged out across all age brackets.

The latest Spanish high-risk countries list is only effective from yesterday until Sunday, September 5th as well when, of course, it will likely be changed again.

Who knows, Austria and Croatia may be back off it. Again.
