Cafe Review: Las Palmeras on the Beachfront in Albir, Spain

On the first day of our trip to Albir, Spain, luck would have it that we stumbled across a beach front cafe called Las Palmeras. With a stunning view out over Albir bay, the friendliest staff and the best apple pie and cafe con leches in town, it’s no wonder we spent most afternoons of our holiday sitting happily at a Las Palmeras table.

Should you be lucky enough to vacation in Albir, on the first day of your holiday make sure you know where Las Palmeras is. One of the best cafes in Albir, you’ll soon find yourself a happy customer too.

Where is Las Palmeras? – Easy to find, Las Palmeras is one of the few cafes right on the promenade, overlooking the ocean. Just ask someone where the post office is and, from there, walk around the corner to the sea front. Las Palmeras is the third small cafe along. You’ll know it from the crowds of people sitting there.

Food and Drink at Las Palmeras – The first thing that makes Las Palmeras such a lovely cafe is the incredibly welcoming staff. Father and son work here, along with several other waiters and waitresses from a good selection of European nationalities. It doesn’t matter which waiter or waitress you get though. They’re all delightfully friendly and all speak excellent English.

The second thing that made sure we returned to Las Palmeras again and again were the inexpensive and delicious cafe con leches, satisfying sandwiches and the best apple pie and cream in Albir.

Las Palmeras’ menu is large. Starting off with appetizers like avocado filled with prawns, soup or smoked salmon and toast, the cafe also has an excellent selection of main courses, baguettes, salads, and desserts. They also serve several breakfast choices, including a full cooked English breakfast and pancakes.

During our many visits to Las Palmeras, we ate everything from ham and cheese baguettes to cheeseburgers, fish and chips, chili con carne, french fries and apple pie. Everything we tried was superb and arrived at our table piping hot and freshly cooked from scratch.

Las Palmeras’ piece de resistance though was their apple pie and cafe con leches. For only 3 euros ($4.25), the cafe serves not only the best apple pie in Albir but just about the best apple pie I’ve ever eaten. Served with a humongous scoop of cream on the side, this apple pie is hot, rich and crumbly, and for the price even comes with a cafe con leche (Spanish latte). Several weeks later, and I’m still thinking about the last slice I ate.

Prices at Las Palmeras – You can’t beat the inexpensive prices at Las Palmeras, particularly for a cafe with such an incredible ocean view.

Appetizers begin at 4 euros 50 cents ($6) and cheeseburgers and french fries and chicken salads are only 6 euros 50 ($8.75), with baguette sandwiches for 5 euros 50 ($7.40) and these come with a large portion of perfect French fries.

For a friendly, comfortable ocean side cafe, with a gorgeous view, nice staff and some of the best (and cheapest) food in Albir, you can’t miss going to Las Palmeras.
