A 61-year-old British man drowned in the pool of his Benissa apartment complex swimming pool this week after telling friends he was eating dinner with he was popping outside for a cigarette.
When he didn’t come back, they became concerned and went out to the pool, only to find his body floating in the water. Emergency services were called, but they were unable to revive the man.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the death but all indications are, at the moment, he may have fallen into the pool and accidentally drowned.
The property, Calle Vesc-Fanadix in Benissa, is owned by the man’s sister-in-law.
An autopsy will be performed at the Forensice Institute in Alicante, and results will be released soon. The Guardia Civil have not released the man’s name, or any of the names of his next-of-kin.
